From 20 minutes per essay to 90 seconds
EduVerse runs certification training for a global corporate audience. Their program requires graded long-form essays, and their prior LMS forced every essay through a human grader. With volume growing 40% year over year, the grading queue had become a weeks-long bottleneck.
The problem
Human-only grading at scale had turned a three-day feedback loop into a three-week one. Learners were finishing courses before receiving feedback on essays written in week one, which broke the pedagogical design and showed up as a 14-point drop in learner NPS.
Why Cognaxa
Cognaxa's AI essay grading returns a score plus a confidence band per rubric criterion. EduVerse's instructors only review essays in the low-confidence tail — roughly 18% of volume — and auto-accept the rest. Human oversight stays on the decisions that matter, not the tedium.
Rollout discipline
EduVerse ran a four-week calibration phase with every instructor reviewing 100% of AI scores in parallel. Only when the correlation with human scores exceeded 0.92 across rubric dimensions did they cut over to the hybrid workflow. The calibration data is captured in Cognaxa and re-run quarterly.
The outcome
Essay feedback now arrives within 24 hours. Learner NPS recovered the 14-point drop and added four more. The 260 instructor hours per week saved on grading were reinvested into 1:1 coaching — which became the new differentiator in EduVerse's sales pitch.
"Our prior LMS took 20 minutes per essay for a human grader. Cognaxa's AI grading with confidence bands cut that to under 90 seconds, and our trainers only review the low-confidence tail. We reinvested the saved hours into 1:1 coaching."
